There are many things which I don't understand and these terms below are a few of them.
According to www.dictionary.com, the definitions of 'clever', 'intelligent' and 'smart' are as follows:- Clever - mentally bright; having sharp or quick intelligence; able. Intelligent - having good understanding or a high mental capacity; quick to comprehend, as persons or animals. Smart - having or showing quick intelligence or ready mental capability.
What I don't understand is what is the exact difference between them? Don't they all describe a person as having better mental capacity than average? So why is there a need for 3 different words to describe the same thing?
It is not just applicable to words, I believe it is also the case in reality. Why is there a need to beat around the bush or having so many different ways of expressing oneself when essentially, it all means the same thing?
