The centrepiece of the tomb was the pharaoh's mummified body, covered in amulets and jewels and wearing a solid gold burial mask.
In an effort to extricate the treasures, Carter and his team cut the body into pieces, chopping off the limbs and head, and using hot knives and wires to remove the gold mask which was fused to Tutankhamun's face by the embalming process.
The body was reconstructed and returned to its original sarcophagus in 1926, only being removed for x-ray testing three times in subsequent years. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7077423.stm
Imagine how you would like it when you are dead and mummified, hopefully to enjoy in your afterlife BUT you have people come tumbling into your tomb and taking your treasures. And when they can't remove it without destroying your body, they cut you into pieces. How ridiculous?! I am sure that if Tutankhamun had his consciousness with him, he would have cursed these people to the depths of hell. Oh, maybe he had already since the ones who opened his tomb, Howard Carter and gang are already dead.
