With the steadily increasing salary of civil servants especially those of the ministers like a fairytale version of the stock market, it really leads me to wonder if the ministers and whoever involved are in politics because of true altruism and the desire to do good for the people and the country or in it for the money.
The initial purpose of entering politics might really be for altruistic actions but as time goes by, I believe that people do get disillusioned. Whatever notions they may have in the past will be all swept away by the cruel, merciless and relentless workings of the social mechanisms. I think that this loss of faith in what people used to believe in can never be found again, not even if their salaries are increased. Just like how you cannot un-know something that you had found out. You can never recover the beliefs that are lost.
We can complain till the sky falls on us and the world is being reduced to flat ground by any means but it will not change a thing. Accept it or like what was said by the MM, 'your apartment will be worth a fraction of what it is, your jobs will be in peril, your security will be at risk and our women will become maids in other people's countries'. What a scary picture that was painted.
