Despite everything that I have experienced in my short 20 years of life, I don't think I would want to erase any part of my memory if given a choice. When memories are being erased, things doesn't make sense anymore. Your life doesn't make sense although you might think you would be happier. You will constantly be confused about why there is a period of time in your life where you absolutely cannot recall anything about it. If you were to erase something nasty from your memories, you better make sure that those people involved and those who knew the people involved have memory erasure too. That is quite impossible because not everyone will be as cowardly as the person involved to escape reality and hide in his own world where there is no disappointment and painful past. Without these lousy experiences, we will not learn to be stronger and independent. We will not learn about the idiots who live and walk the earth. We will not know how screwed up and lousy we ourselves are. We will be hiding in a hole trying to avoid everything that we are unhappy or afraid of. Most importantly, we will not know our history. But I still love Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I know I have rambled about this film for a million times, I just cannot resist doing it again. It totally advocates a technology which is totally tempting to many people, I believe. It is extremely inviting to only have memories on things you like and want to keep. Imagine a world like a child's. No unhappiness, no disappointments, no worries. Pure and innocent. I want to be a kid. No nasty memories = no need for memory erasure. I will still retain my history!
