Extreme: Extending far beyond the norm. Recently I have been thinking about this word. According to the dictionary, I interpret it vaguely as being extraordianry. But somehow, in the recent years, or even further back in the history, this word has been linked to all the negative connotations. It has been used to describe the terrorists with twisted ideologies. Even in the area of sports, there is also 'Extreme Sports.' Through these 2 examples, I don't really think that the definition fits the use of the word. When it means beyond the norm, it should be a good thing right? It should be daring to try something different instead of blindly following others and trends and conforming to society's standards. But I am still puzzled over the use of this word. Why is it bad? Why does it sound so bad? Does it mean thatthe dictionary is giving me the incorrect definition or it is just us, using the word loosely and making it lose all meaning? Well, I think this is something worth thinking about. It may not be just this word but I believe there are many other such instances too where the definition and actual use of words do not tally.
Recently, I also found out something. Maybe it has always been there all along but it's just that I have chosen to turn a blind eye to. I discovered that humans seem to prefer hate than love. They would rather gather all their negative energy and hate a person than to try to know the person better and look at their postive side. And there's something even more interesting is that those people that we hate are normally our friends. Well, maybe hate is too strong of a word but the meaning is vaguely there. People will pretend to be on good terms with their friends but underneath that cover, they actually have truckloads of unhappiness and complaints about the friends whom they always hango out with. Why do people have to be so hypocritcal? Why can't they just tell those people they dislike straight in their face and tell them what is it that pisses them off? At least they get to solve the problem, hopefully, and won't have to pretend in front of one another again. But it seems like people are doing the exact opposite now. Instead of confronting others, they keep all their 'injustice' to themselves and will bear grudges and one day, when they explode, everything comes out not the way they mean it and ugly. I'm not saying that people should go around hating one another but there are times when you really can't stand something. What I mean is that people should go clarify their doubts and settle their flustered feelings instead of acting all hypocritcal in front of one another.
"People make use of one another and that is a fact." This is something a friend said today and also something another friend had said to me and many others million years ago. All along, I thought that I could be the optimist and refused to believe that people make use of one another all the time but as time goes by, I think I am starting to think deeper into this issue, which might carry some truth in it. For example, friendship is formed with a purpose in mind - to have someone around when you are sad and happy. In a way, it is like making use of your friends. Expecting them to be around when you want them to. For me to think this way, I think there is only 2 reasons. One, the world is indeed changing and people making use of one another is really showing in a big and too obvious manner. Two, I have been changed by the world. Instead of the normal optimistic person I was, I am being transformed into someone who are aware of the evils of Man and the negative impacts society is having on the people nowadays.
